A Day At The Beach

This morning was a beach hut morning.

I love our beach hut time. It has completely transformed how and when we use our beloved beach.

For a start we can park a couple of meters away (always a bonus). We no longer have to traipse over shingle slopes armed with towels, swim wear, towels, food, hats, buckets spades etc. This is now left neatly snuggled in our little hut amongst the table, chairs, mugs, coffee, bunting and bubble making toys.

There's even a toilet block and a small children's play area. It all adds up to beachy heaven!

The girls love it. Rummaging for treasured pebbles, shells and seaweed. Running screaming from the waves as they charge towards their feet. Making sandcastles when the tide goes out.  All the things that I did when I was a young child and now do with my girls.

And when they're not playing on the beach they're charging around the beach huts playing tag, or weaving in and out on their scooters. When they eventually get bored of the beach they move on to the delights of the play area. Climbing up the slide tower and whizzing down into a heap of soft sand at the bottom or charging round playing pirates with the other kids on the block.

Occasionally I catch them just sitting there just taking it all in. Watching the hypnotic rise and fall of the sea whilst the waves breaking on the shore as the wind clears their busy little minds.

We've only had it since March and without having talked to Mr Dad I know that we will be keeping it for a few years yet. Hopefully I'll have added some personal touches like a lick of paint, some coat hooks, pictures, beachy decorations.

For now we have a collection of very important chert pebbles, some broken shells and a a rather swish collection of plastic buckets!

  1. Would love a beach hut but sadly they don't seem to feature on the beaches near to us. Sounds like a real gem.

  5. We rent it off the council so are only tied in to a yearly lease. They maintain the sheds, toilets and play area so it's a really good deal. Lot's of people share the rental which makes them even cheaper. But you're right it is an extra luxury. xxx
