The girls went back to school today. The house is now quiet.
I was partly organised this time. All their school uniform was hung up and ready for them. Shoes were polished and by the door. Gold star for me I thought. We're ahead of the game! By 8.15am I was feeling smug as I shuffled them towards the door to get in the car.
Silly me ... eldest has a major melt down because she can't find her hat! I find a few alternatives but the stamping of feet and tears suggest they are not appropriate.
'Oh well, you can go to school without a hat. It doesn't matter', I say.
It would seem that that is not the case either! She stamps her feet even more pointing at her sisters who both have hats on their head.
'They've got hats on. I'm not going to school without a hat!', she rants.
So now we're in stand off. Mr Dad tries to intervene but things start to get worse. It's time to stage a sit in!
I place all the hats that fit her on the floor by the door. Then Mr Dad, RoRo, RaRa and myself all sit down and wait.
Eldest does not move.
It's getting late!
RoRo and RaRa start giggling like loonies.
Tick tock! tick tock!
Finally after a few minutes eldest picks a hat and we can get into the car.
The twenty minute drive is uneventful. The girls even ask to do some maths ... 'You go to the shops and buy 7 apples. On the way home a large pink pig eats 3 of them. How many do you have left?' And so it continues with giggles and claps all the way to school.
They skip off happily towards their classes. It's all looking good again ... then I realise I've forgotten three P.E. kits and a violin!
This is part of Tuesday Tea & Sympathy
I know exactly how you feel. I am definitely one of those mums who think they're organised but quite quickly find out I'm not!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! It's hopeless for we mums when school starts again because our brains seem to melt into mush during the holidays!!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to put this post on my Blog Promotions page - if you have any objections, please let me know.

Lol so true! Did the PE kits and violin make it to the school? Totally something i would do :)
ReplyDeleteOh she sounds just like my girl who always decides she needs 'something' just as we're about to step out of the door! Girls!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh i could have written this post! I find mornings to be such a nightmare. Actually did alright this morning but who knows what will happen tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI'm dreading when they start instruments. How on earth do they carry them too.
lol, no the violin and PE kits stayed at home. Eldest has her violin lesson straight after Registration and I banked on them not doing P.E. on the first day back! We are in trouble when RoRo & RaRa start the violin which could be this term!
ReplyDeleteKnow exactly how you feel, mine always need the loo, or something to eat just as we are about to walk out of the door!Beanie has to take his toothbrush to school tomorrow - like I am going to remember that!
ReplyDeleteoh dear! At least you didn't lock yourself out of the house on the way to pick up..... :-)
ReplyDeleteTypical school run!Theres always that moment when it goes pear shaped!
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm suggesting links for you I suddenly thought you can link up to mine! It's today: Tuesday tea and sympathy for anyone having a bad day!

And of course, there is Fail Friday over on Parenting on the Front Line. Not that I'm suggesting you're a failure *ahem*.
ReplyDeletenice post. We've all done this at some point or another. The pram is like a cart-horse carrying all the stuff we have to remember for school.
Oh well, think how much worse it would have been if you hadn't been organised! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up, matey. Virtual tea and headache tablets for you!
ReplyDeleteMy son suddenly reported that he needed an 17th century fireman's outfit just as we were leaving for the walk to school. And my nine-year old would depart with her slippers on if I didn't remind her to put each shoe on. You're in multidudinous company, my dear.
