I started making this soothing Lavender and Calendula bath soak when I discovered that one of my twins had very sensitive skin. Both her sisters could have fun with bubbles and coloured water, so I started making her her own ‘special‘ bath mixtures that not only looked pretty but helped look after her sore skin.
1 cup of Epsom salts
1 cup of dried milk powder (full fat if you can get it, but any type is ok)
Approx 15 drops Lavender essential oil
A generous sprinkling calendula petals (optional)
Mix together the Epsom salts and dried milk. Then add your Lavender oil and stir well so that the oil is evenly distributed. Finally add the calendula petals.
The amount of calendula petals added is down to personal taste but remember they will stick to your body when you get out of the bath. I like quite a few and use a shower head to rinse them off me at the end of the bath.
Store in an airtight container for at least 24 hrs before use to allow the Lavender to spread through all the mixture.
Epsom Salts – Full of nourishing minerals that are absorbed through the skin Epsom Salts are wonderful for soaking away the days aches and pains.
Dried Milk Powder – Milk has long been used in beauty products. It’s believed that it’s good for nourishing and moisturising skin.
Lavender Oil – Lavender has so many beneficial uses. Not only is it a relaxing stress reliever but it also has antiseptic properties.
Calendula Petals – I add them as they look pretty floating in the bath but they also have anti-inflamatory properties that are great for soothing skin irritations
It’s super easy to make and looks gorgeous in pretty glass jars to give to friends, family (perfect for Mothers Day), teachers etc as gifts. Then again you can be like me and just make it to pamper yourself!
