Over the last week I’ve been testing some of the New CafePod Coffee Capsules and I’m impressed. They are compatible with all Nespresso® Machines and currently available in seven different flavours. I was sent Lungo, Smooth, Intense and Ristretto to review.
I am a coffee lover and drink a lot throughout my day so am always up for trying out new products. I like a black coffee so my review doesn’t take into account how the coffee works with milk or cream added.
The CafePod capsules are colour coded and are graded on a strength scale of 1 -10 with 10 being the strongest. I have a M19 Citiz machine by Magimix and had no problems putting the capsules in or getting them out. Each cup of coffee was made easily with out the need to reset the capsules and there were no problems with perforation. Top marks all round.
Arabica Lungo – Strength 4
This is 100% Arabica coffee. Perfect for when you need that longer lazy easy going coffee. Think Sunday morning and croissants or sunny afternoons watching the kids play in the garden after Lunch. It combines Central American, East African and Brazilian Coffee.
It is easy to drink and perfect for friends and family who don’t like a strong coffee or who don’t like an espresso.
Smooth – Strength 5
This is a exactly as described. An easy going smooth coffee that leaves a great tang in your mouth afterwards. It’s a coffee for any time of day and prefect as an introduction to newbie espresso drinkers. It’s a mix of High Grown Central American, sundried Ethiopian and Brazilian Arabica plus Southern Indian Robusta.
This was my least favourite of the CafePod capsules that I tried. That’s not to say that I didn’t like it ( I did) but I prefer a coffee with a bit more body and this didn’t quite hit the mark. I’d prefer to have the longer Lungo above.
Intense – Strength 8
This is a stronger richer coffee with more body and intensity and works better for me as an any time of day Espresso. Perfect for the afternoons witching hour when I start to get sleepy and the girls need my attention coming out of school or I’ve got a craft project to finish.
Ristretto – Strength 10
Warning: This isn’t for the novice coffee drinker. It packs a hearty coffee punch full of body and intensity. Combining South American Arabica, full bodied Indonesian coffee and Southern Indian Robusta
The Ristretto CafePods would be wonderful after an evening meal, in the afternoon with a naughty piece of chocolate on the side or if your morning needs a heady rush of excitement.
I loved this and finished the box a little too quickly. It has a wonderfully rich chocolaty smooth taste, full of body and excitement. It was perfect for a pick me up wen my recent decorating skills were put to the test … it was my favourite.
I think CafePod have pulled together a really great bundle of coffee flavours. There’s something to suit most people and maybe even tempt you in to a an area of coffee you haven’t tried before.
You can currently find them in Waitrose, Tesco, Amazon and Ocado.
