The girls each had a go at a different Dragonfly Craft to help raise money for a local charity ‘Dragonflies’.
Dragonflies is a bereavement charity who supports children and their families who have lost someone close to them. They asked the school children to create a painting, drawing or collage of a dragonfly that would be entered into a competition (entry to the competition required a small donation … all for a very good cause!).
My girls had very strong ideas about what they wanted to do and two of them were adamant that they were going to do a model. I’m not sure if they’ll count in the competition but that doesn’t matter. It’s the creativity, taking part and helping to raise a bit of money that was important.
Here are their results …
Dragonfly 1 – String and sand collage
Draw a pencil outline of a dragonfly. Glue string on to outline and leave to dry. Spread glue on to each segment and carefully sprinkle craft sand. Add sparkly stickers and leave to dry.
Dragonfly 2 – Bottle Corks
Glue three wine bottle corks and a champagne bottle cork together to form the body and paint. Bend four, 30cm cotton pipe cleaners into wing shapes and cover in tissue paper. Glue wings to thinnest part of champagne cork and outline wings with glitter glue. Add big gem eyes and pipe cleaner legs.
Dragonfly 3 – Upcycled Jumper Sleeve
This gorgeous dragonfly is made from the arm of an old jumper stuffed with newspaper. String is tied around the body to make the three body segments (head, thorax and abdomen). Use massive acrylic gems for the eyes, bent willow twigs for the wings and pipe cleaner for legs. The eyes and legs are glues on with a glue gun and the wings sewn on to the back.
I think they did a marvelous job!
