Needle Felt Spider Craft

I’ve been playing with my roving wool again and made these super cute felt spider craft decorations that are perfect for using over Halloween.

Needle Felt Spiders

They’re also really easy as they’re formed around a polystyrene ball so it’s easy to get a good shape each time.

You’ll need a 4cm polystyrene ball, black red and natural roving wool, felting needles, four black cotton pipe cleaners and a little PVA glue.

Pull off some black roving wool, wrap it around your polystyrene ball and pin it into place by stabbing it into the polystyrene ball.

Roving wool around polystyrene ball

Keep doing this until the polystyrene ball is completely covered and the felt feels  firm to the touch and doesn’t pull away from the ball easily. I start with a larger felting needle and tidy up using a fine needle.

Black felted ball

Cut the cotton pipe cleaners in half then using a sharp point (I use a nail or sharp pencil) make 4 holes each side of the ball. Dip the end of each pipe cleaner in a little PVA glue and insert them int the holes.

Felt Spider Leg Holes

Bend the legs into shape and then get ready to work on the face.

Felt Spider Body

Start with the mouth first and roll a small piece of red roving wool into a sausage shape between your fingers. Start in the middle and shape the wool onto the spider using a felting needle. To make the eyes use some natural  roving wool that you form into a rough circle/oval to start and agian pin in place using your felting needle.

Needle Felt Spider Face

Add some black roving wool pupils and your spider is finished.

Felt Spider

A super cute and super light weight decoration for Halloween.

If you like these then you’ll probably like our Sparkly Spiders.

HI, thank for sharing. Although I am not sure I will do these any time soon, I have a serious arachnophobia!!!
