Why Pipe Cleaner Reindeer Are the Perfect Christmas Craft
The Christmas season can be hectic, so having a craft that requires minimal time and effort but still delivers beautiful results. And our Pipe Cleaner Reindeers check all the boxes for an ideal Christmas craft.
- Minimal materials: You only need a few basic materials that are easy to find and most households have.
- No cutting or gluing: This craft requires no sharp tools or glue (as long as you don;t make a fabric nose), making it safe for young kids.
- Customizable: You can change up the look by using different beads, fabric scraps, or pipe cleaner colors to personalize your reindeer.
- Quick and easy: The entire process takes just a few minutes, making it a great last-minute craft idea.
Materials You’ll Need
Before getting started, gather the following materials:
- 30cm brown pipe cleaners: Cotton pipe cleaners work best, but you can also use fluffy chenille pipe cleaners. Fluffy pipe cleaners will give your reindeer a different texture and appearance.
- Red pony beads: The beads are used to make Rudolph’s iconic red nose. They have the perfect sized hole for threading onto pipe cleaners. You can get creative with different styles, such as sparkly beads or star-shaped ones for a fun look.
- Optional: Red fabric scraps, such as felt, if creating a fabric nose instead of using a bead.
Once you’ve collected your materials, follow the steps below to create your Pipe Cleaner Reindeer.
Instructions for Making Pipe Cleaner Reindeer
In this tutorial, we’ll show you step-by-step how to make your very own Pipe Cleaner Reindeer, using just a few materials. This craft is perfect for kids and adults alike and will leave you with charming handmade decorations that everyone will admire.
1. Slide a pony bead to the centre of your pipe cleaner and gently fold the pipe cleaner in half. If using fabric scraps glue your fabric around the centre of the pipe cleaner.
2. Twist your pipe cleaner ends together about half way upas in the photo below.
3. Shape the loop of pipe cleaner not a triangular shape.
4. Pinch out and up, the top corners of the triangle to form ears.
5. Squeeze in the two bottom sides near to your nose to make the reindeer snout.
6. Bend the two bits of sticky up pipe cleaner into antler shapes.
T’dah… all done. Now you can attach some fine cotton thread or ribbon and hang them from your Christmas Tree, give them as a gift, tie them to a present or even stick them to the front of a Christmas Card.
Sometimes the the nicest Christmas decorations are the simplest and these definitely fall into that category. Requiring very few materials and no cutting or gluing (unless you make a fabric nose) they really are a top Christmas Craft.
