Don’t throw away your long thin felt scraps. Instead with a little patience and a glue gun you can turn them into these stunning Scrap Felt Geode Coasters. They are perfect for protecting your table top surface and they help keep your cuppa warm. Oh and they look gorgeous as well!
Equipment Needed For Scrap Felt Geode Coasters
- Felt Scraps
- Glue Gun plus glue sticks
- Rotary Cutter (UK Amazon, US Amazon)
- Metal ruler
- Cutting mat… I use a self healing mat (UK Amazon, US Amazon)
- Scissors
Get your felt scraps into 1cm wide strips in a mix of your favourite Autumn colours. I used a rotary cutter but you can use scissors.
Choose your first colour and curl it up into a small tight roll using a small amount of glue to secure in place. Cut away any felt not rolled up to use later.
Continue adding a few more different coloured layers until you get your first roll to the size you want (I space out small blobs of glue rather than gluing the whole strip). Repeat this process so you ave two small multicoloured rolls (they don’t have to be the same size).
Now you need to glue the two small rolls together and then carefully glue another strip of felt around both of these rolls.
Keep building up your layers and adding extra rolls until you get the coaster size you want.
Top Tip:
Work with the good side facing down onto the table so you can keep one side nice and flat/even. Use sharp scissors to trim any uneven areas any glue overspill.

This came up on Fb feed and oddly enough I made myself a pin cushion using this technique last yea.
Not as a geode, love that idea, but as a circle using narrow felt strips,
Its at work or Id take a pic and show you it.
The thing is I backed one side with a leather circle specifically so the pins and needles wouldn’t push right through it.
Its worked a treat and it might be useful for your geodes, adding stability whilst keeping the felt fully in place : )
