Materials Needed
You will need;
- 30cm green pipe cleaners (I used cotton pipe cleaners but you can also use fluffy chenille ones),
- mini pom poms
- a glue gun or PVA (white) glue
- cotton or string to hang them by.
How To Make Your Pipe Cleaner Christmas Trees
The Pipe Cleaner Christmas Trees are pretty easy to make but they are a little fiddly because of their size. So younger kids may find my pipe cleaner and perler bead Christmas Tree decorations easier to make.
- The first thing you need to do is curl your pipe cleaner into a snail shell shape.
- Next, carefully pull up from the center of the pipe cleaner to create your cone shape. It will look a bit like a coiled spring.
- Once you have your cone shape, wrap/tuck the outer end of the pipe cleaner around the next curl to secure a circle base. This will allow the pipe cleaner Christmas Tree to stand up firmly.
- Finally, glue your pom poms to the pipe cleaner. For speed, you can use a glue gun. But I prefer to use thick tacky white PVA glue. It takes longer to dry but it leaves a neater finish.
How To Use Your Decorations
The finished decorations can be used in a few different ways. I like to add a thread and hang them on the Christmas Tree or on festive branches. They also look fabulous, dotted around the house in small clusters of stand-alone decorations. They make super cute name placeholders for the table. And they also make adorable accessories for kids to use in imaginary play with toys and as ornaments in toy doll houses or Playmobil playsets.

Love these! Just wondering – what kind of glue did you use? Thanks! Sue

Hi, I use pva white glue (tacky glue). I squirt a blog onto a plate or plastic lid and the the pompoms can be dipped in and stuck in place. I have tried a glue gun but i prefer the pva because although it takes longer to dry I can manipulate the position of the pompoms. I tend to glue in halves. So will do half a tree and then let it dry. This allows me to play with the shape of the tree a little.

Yours are so cute. My pipe cleaners are 12 inches and seem a tad short. Can’t get as many curls. Mine are chenille . I’ll keep trying and also look for longer ones!!

Thank you for this! Am I the only one that found this a little tricky? hahaha. Hot glue can be so naughty although it does dry quickly. I see you used some other glue, will try that next.
For fun I decorate a little outdoor tree next to a public alley so I am always on the lookout for cheery ornaments that don’t cost a lot.
